Leeds United sent Georginio Rutter warning as expert claims Whites are paying 'double' his value

Leeds United have been warned not to have an “unhealthy expectation” on Georginio Rutter, as the player edges closer to a move to Elland Road.

German football expert Jasmine Baba believes that the Whites are paying double what they should for the Frenchman, with Leeds set to break their transfer record for the Hoffenheim striker. Leeds are reportedly set to land Rutter for a deal that could be worth up to £35m.

The Elland Road club broke their transfer record with the arrival of Rodrigo from Valencia in the summer of 2020 ahead of their first season back in the Premier League. Speaking to ITV, Baba warned that the fee attached to Rutter could create an unfair expectation on the player.

She said: "We have him at [a value of] around €16-20m at the moment, which Leeds are basically doubling. It's a lot over what he's valued at the moment and that can bring quite an unhealthy expectation to such a young player and could backfire.

"People should not expect Leeds' problems to magically disappear.”

On Friday night, the Whites were left with just two wins from their last 17 games after they were beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa on Friday night. When asked about the possible signing of Rutter after the game, manager Jesse Marsch said: "No, I won't discuss that. We'll have enough announcements in the coming days."
