Josh Koroma fitness boost for Huddersfield Town - along with some bad news

The former Leyton Orient player was the club’s star performer in the first months of the Carlos Corberan era and scored six times before suffering a serious hamstirng injury in the victory over Sheffield Wednesday in December.

Koroma has been hard at work in his rehabilitation this year and is now seeing some welcome light at the end of the tunnel, with a return to training being a significant moment.

Meanwhile, Corberan, whose side welcome Brentford on Saturday, confirmed that Rolando Aarons is back available for selection.

He said: “Josh Koroma trained for the first time today with the group, so we have moved forward the time of the recovery a little bit because we did not expect to have him back this week, but in the next weeks.

"But we have moved his recovery by four or five days as he worked with the group today. So it was very positive to see him working with the group as he is a very important player for us.

“It is fantastic news for us. He will need a little bit of time to adapt.

“Rolando Aarons has added to the training and he has been working this week with more regular days and he needed to add to his physical condition, but now he has started to work, especially this week, with the group and he is an option we have available to add to the team.”

With the likes of Danny Ward and Yaya Sanogo also having boosted their fitness in the international break, Town’s options in the final third are starting to improve, although they have suffered one fresh and untimely blow regarding recent arrival Oumar Niasse.

The former Everton player signed a short-term deal until the end of the season late last week, but - in a luckless development - the striker suffered a groin injury in a training ground game last week.

Town are waiting on the news of a second scan before the prognosis is revealed, with Niasse yet to feature for the club - and his chances of doing so could hinge on the injury news.

Corberan added: “The situation is we did not have luck with him. He was working with our physical staff for the previous three weeks and the papers arrived on time to make the agreement with him (last Friday) and he was doing some training with the group and we had one game here in the training ground behind closed doors.

“Unfortunately, one of the actions in the first minutes of the game, he slipped and after he slipped, one player fell on him and he suffered an injury.

“We scanned him on Monday, but he had some liquid in the injury and we do not know the impact and we need to wait until Monday to see if the injury is short-term or a mid-term injury. So we don’t know yet. It was an accident in the game and it could have happened to any player on the pitch."

Meanwhile, Corberan confirmed that it is unlikely that Christopher Schindler will play for the club again this season due to the knee injury he sustained in December.

The German, who scored the penalty to take the club to the Premier League in 2017, is out of contract in the summer and expected to leave the club.

Corberan said: "It's very difficult to see him playing for us again this season.

"He's been a big player for us. He was part of the team that got promoted to the Premier League and continued into the Championship with us and we had hoped to be able to play with us more this season."
