Sheffield United's Ellie Wilson says Blades are feeling cut-through from Lionesses' Euros win

Sheffield United defender Ellie Wilson can feel the excitement the Lionesses created in the summer filtering down the women's game.

The Blades have done their bit to capitalise on a successful women's European Championship which saw England play their semi-final at Bramall Lane en route to winning the tournament. This season all Sheffield United's women's games will be played at the historic ground, which on Sunday welcomes Coventry United in the Women's Championship.

"When I’m out in the community I'm engaging with a lot of people who are Sheffield United fans," says the 25-year-old, who is studying for a degree in muscle-skeletal sports science and health at Loughborough University.

"Now the WSL (Women’s Super League) has kicked off I think there'll be more interest again. People are going to want to watch these players in domestic football."

If the Lionesses have inspired new fans, they have inspired Wilson too.

"It was quite inspiring because I've played with some of the girls at club and international level," she says. "It just adds to the motivation and being a positive role model and the fact it's appreciated a little bit more rather than people not being so interested. It's nice it's had the explosion it has done."Team-mate Charley Docherty says there is another advantage to the move to Bramall Lane."It feels like we're really tied in with the men now," says the midfielder. "It's nice to be appreciated. It's nice to play at the Lane."
