Tom Edwards has returned to Stoke City as a result of the knee injury picked up on loan with Barnsley.

The 23-year-old had impressed on the right of a back three for the Championship side, but damaged medial ligaments playing against Derby County in the FA Cup earlier this month.

It was the last of 15 appearances for the Reds. He made nine League One starts for the promotion-chasers.

Michael Duff has moved quickly to sign a replacement, loaning Bobby Thomas from Burnley.
