Atkinson century leads Otley home

Josh Atkinson scored the first century of the new season to get Otley off to a winning start at newly promoted Thackley. Paul Mosey (39) top scored as the home side fell victim to Alex Rose (5-52) and were restricted to 181-8, a total Otley passed with six wickets to spare thanks to Atkinson's undefeated 106 and 45 from Sam Smith. John Inglis (97) was another batsman to hit early form, starring as Beckwithshaw started the defence of their title with a crushing defeat of North Leeds, who were skittled for 68 in reply to the home side's 280-6. Paul Thompson was the pick of the bowlers with 3-10 off six overs. Nick Brook topped the bowling averages in Division One last season and made a sparkling start to the new campaign with 5-31 to keep Adel to 131-9, a total Burley passed with nine wickets to spare led by Ian Frost (67no). Philip Atkinson top scored with 93 in Green Lane's 193-9 but they had to settle for a four-point draw because Guiseley's last pair managed to hang on at 160-9. A five-wicket spell from Neil Waite set up Collingham's win over Pool, John Swain (51) and Brian Leigh (61) seeing them past the visitors 180 total. In Division Two, former Yorkshire and Somerset player Jeremy Batty inspired his new club Harden to a four-wicket win at Follifoot, following up a spell of 5-30 with a top score of 43. Calverley came out on top in the match of the two relegated clubs, Gareth Lee (4-9) helping restrict Silsden to 120 and Imran Mirza (72) leading the run chase. Sam Lawrence (5-47) and Chris Spivey (4-44) gave Bolton Villas a winning start after promotion, defending their side's total of 137 by bowling out Steeton for 109. Olicanian also enjoyed a good start after moving up a division, Peter Hall (72no) and Eddie Brown (64) helping them to 216-9, but they had to settle for five points because Knaresborough clung on at 90-8. Phil Timmens (4-27) on debut, Amir Ayub (3-16) and Darren Simpson (3-38) dismissed Tong Park for 90 but Bilton lost eight wickets in getting home in 34.1 overs. Chris Baines top scored with 60 in Upper Wharfedale's 174 with Chris Goulden taking 6-51 but the total proved enough because Illingworth were dismissed for 140 despite 84 from Nial Lockley.
