Trucker killed in horrific HGV pile-up on A1
Police said the driver who died, aged 38, from the Stockton-on-Tees area, was in a lorry carrying gas bottles that collided with another lorry, carrying a combine harvester, which was parked in a layby on the A1 near Northallerton at 2am yesterday.
The gas bottle lorry was then struck by a third HGV, which was towing a curtain-sided trailer.

The northbound A1 was closed completely and did not reopen until 7.45pm, although there were further delays into the evening as traffic eased.
Congestion was earlier exacerbated by a six-car accident on the B6271 at Great Langton, which was being used at the time as a diversion route following the A1 crash.
