Tributes to pioneerwoman director
Friends have paid tribute to Wendy Toye, an "extraordinary" dancer, choreographer, film and TV director, who died aged 92.
After an illustrious career in theatre and film, young women looked up to her as one of the first female directors in Britain.
Toye used her “charm, beauty and a wicked sense of humour” to succeed in a male-dominated industry, according to friends and performers. Born in London in 1917, she first appeared at the Royal Albert Hall aged three.
