LABOUR's Batley and Spen MP, Jo Cox, has taken a delegation of local care organisations to Westminster to discuss gaps in social care with ministers.

The meeting with social care minister Alistair Burt and shadow minister Emma Lewell-Buck yesterday was part of Mrs Cox’s ongoing campaign around loneliness and isolation, that has included the founding of a national commission of the subject.

Mrs Cox said local voluntary and charitable organisations feel national policies do not reflect local needs and demands.

She said: “Social care is hugely underfunded and there is a lack of integrated services. However, the current lack of analysis has allowed the government to avoid taking decisive action.

“This delegation will, I hope, help address that, raise awareness with ministers and also contribute to the work I am doing to tackle loneliness and isolation.”
