Policing experts predict ‘years of disorder’

POLICE are facing a “perfect storm” of cuts in staff, “chaotic” reforms and evolving threats to the public, claims Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper.

She claimed that morale among officers had “dropped through the floor” as the Government cuts spending and introduces controversial elected police commissioners to oversee forces for the first time next November.

Ms Cooper, MP for Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford, said: “The pressure on the police is growing and without further reform and action I fear that the police will not be equipped to respond.”

Labour will be fielding commissioner candidates.
