Poet taking up university role
Mr Armitage, from Marsden, near Huddersfield will be teaching on the MA course in creative writing. He said: "There's something nice about this, it feels a little bit like coming home. There's a satisfaction in that. I did actually apply to Sheffield University for a teacher training course in 1987 and they turned me down, so it's come full circle."
Professor Mike Braddick, pro-vice-chancellor for the faculty of arts and humanities, said: "I am delighted to welcome Simon Armitage, one of our leading poets, to the school of English. Simon has a huge following and we are confident that he will make an outstanding contribution."
