Osmondthorpe house fire: Red Cross called to house fire after property left 'unhabitable' due to blaze

Seven people were taken to hospital to be checked over after a house fire broke out in Yorkshire this weekend.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to Dawlish Avenue, in Osmondthorpe, Leeds, shortly before 6pm on January 21. The service said seven people were taken to hospital to be checked over following the blaze, and also called in the fire investigation team to see what started it.

The Red Cross were also called to the scene due to the house being ‘inhabitable’, the service said. West Yorkshire Police were also on scene as the house was unsecure due to the fire.

A statement from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Call to a house fire, on arrival crews made incident persons reported. Equipment used was four breathing apparatus and two hose reels and all persons were confirmed to be have been out of the property when fire service arrived.

"Seven occupants were taken to hospital for check-ups. Fire investigation requested to determine cause of fire. Red Cross also requested to attend due to property being uninhabitable and to help temporary rehousing of occupants. Police remained on scene due to property being unsecure.”

Crews from Killingbeck and Leeds fire stations attended the incident.
