Pensioners critical after North Yorkshire road smash
The incident occurred at around 12.30pm yesterday on the A66 Eastbound outside the Smallways café and involved a black BMW Convertible and a silver Citroen C3.
The male driver and female passenger of the BMW, both 34 from Houghton, Carlisle, were taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

Hide AdThe 80 year old male driver and 73 year old female passenger in the Citroen, both from Durham, suffered serious injuries and were taken to James Cook hospital by Air Ambulance, where they remain in a critical but stable condition.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who saw either vehicle prior to the collision, is asked to contact the police.
