Why Christa Ackroyd is wrong, Menwith Hill actually puts our security at risk - Yorkshire Post Letters

Good journalists usually check their facts to make sure what they put out is true (Mysterious Menwith Hill by Christa Ackroyd August 6, 2022).

Christa Ackroyd clearly knows very little that is accurate about the American base at NSA/NRO Menwith Hill.

I am appalled at the ignorance and careless statements that Ms Ackroyd trots out. There are serious flaws in what she states – much of it is just not true or embellished with information that does not make sense.

It is her opinion so there are no references to back up what she says.

Had Ms Ackroyd troubled to look at the work of many individuals and groups who have been working away for years to reveal the truth about what goes on at the American base at Menwith Hill she would not have written such an article.

Menwith Hill puts all our security at risk and many of us are working to send the US Visiting Forces back to their borders. Unlike Ms Ackroyd, we are careful to only put out information that has been credibly researched and referenced.

Incidentally, I was also one of the thousands of women who had their eyes opened at Greenham Common in 1980.

Through our work and struggle we contributed to the sending of US Cruise Nuclear Weapons back to the US and restored that land to common land. It is now enjoyed by so many people to walk and play.

Now we work to restore that wonderful area of Nidderdale back to its original state.
