Time to merge Yorkshire’s police forces to help fund more front line officers – Yorkshire Post Letters
IN a few weeks’ time, we will be holding eight elections across Yorkshire, the North East and Cumbria for Police, Crime and Victim Commissioner posts. These were postponed from a year ago.
Why are we holding so many elections?
For many years now people have called for the Cleveland police force to be split in two.

Hide AdThe northern half should be merged with Durham, it has been said. The southern half should be merged with North Yorkshire it has been suggested. Frankly, I would go further.
I would say it is time to merge the four Yorkshire forces into one Yorkshire force.
I would say it is time for a North East and Cumbria force too, taking in Cumbria, Northumbria and Durham constabularies.
Then we could abolish six commissioner posts.
That would also enable the abolition of six chief constable and 12 deputy chief constable posts.
