Mother cooks up a winner
MASTERCHEF winner Shellina Permalloo has put her success down to her mother’s cooking after becoming only the second woman in eight years to triumph on the show.
The 29-year-old was crowned the winner of the BBC programme last night by judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace who said she brings “sunshine to a plate”. Shelina, who lives in Tooting, grew up in Southampton in a Mauritian family where she learned about the food her parents grew up with.
“My mum is a brilliant cook,” she said. ”I learnt everything from her. I’m basically her sous chef. She taught me to cook by intuition.”
