Lights shine on school charity ball in aid of cancer research

PREPARATIONS are under way for a major charity ball at one of North Yorkshire’s leading independent schools.

The fundraiser, called the Enchanted Ball, is being held at Belmont Grosvenor School, Birstwith, near Harrogate, with lights being strung up around its beautiful grounds to create a magical effect on the night.

It is hoped up to £15,000 will be raised from the event in aid of Yorkshire Cancer Research, after the charity’s chief executive Mark Stevens, who lives near the school, made a special presentation to organisers.

The chairman of the Belmont Grosvenor School PTA committee, Julia King, said: “Yorkshire Cancer Research is a truly local charity and had the overwhelming support of the committee.

“Raising valuable funds for research by doctors and scientists in Yorkshire is a hugely positive way to help, in promoting better treatments and ultimately higher rates of cure.

“Belmont Grosvenor is a very special place, and we will be utilising all it has to offer to ensure guests see the school in an entirely different light.”

The evening event takes place on Saturday, July 2, and includes a champagne reception, meal and live music.

Tickets cost £75 and are available from the school on 01423 771029.
