Leaving Newton House is a big wrench for Carole and Stephen Galpin. They have spent a considerable sum on updating the five-bedroom property and making it perfect – and it will be hard to beat its location.
Stillington, which is in Hambleton district, is one of the most sought-after and best-served villages within easy travelling distance of York.. Sitting on the York to Helmsley Road, just 10 miles north of York city centre and four miles from Easingwold, the village has a GP surgery, a shop and Post Office, three pubs, a primary school, a village hall, and a sports and social club and sports field.

“We came from quite a large house in Kent and finding a rental property big enough for all our belongings was proving difficult, which is why we decided to buy. The only reason we are selling is because my son and daughter-in-law are moving to the other side of York and with our first grandchild on the way we want to move near them so we can help each other out. We will miss the house and the village, which has a lovely community.”
The couple moved into their home in Stillington just over a year ago after a radical makeover, which saw them install a new kitchen and Aga, along with a new window to add more natural light. They also combined the dining room and study to make a large dining/family room, put in a new bathroom suite and had new central heating and a wood-burning stove installed.
“There is also some potential left above the garages, where we were going to make a bedroom suite and study and there is planning permission for a conservatory,” says Mrs Galpin.
