You could have your will legally drafted by a local solicitor and all you’ll pay is a donation towards a Yorkshire hospice.

A number of solicitors have generously donated their will-writing expertise for Make a Will Month this October, in support of St Leonard’s Hospice in York.

Why make a will?

If you’ve been putting off making your will you’re not alone – it’s not something we like to think about, but once it has been done, it will give you peace of mind knowing your family, friends and causes close to your heart are looked after in the way you want. It means you keep control of what happens to your assets – without a will the law will decide – and having a will may reduce the amount of inheritance tax payable too.

Your circumstances may have recently changed – a new child or grandchild, getting married or divorced, buying a house or inheriting money yourself – any of which might give you extra reasons to make a will or update your existing one.

And this October if you have your will drawn up by one of the participating firms, all they ask in exchange is that you give a donation to St Leonard’s hospice in York to help pay for ongoing patient care.

You don’t even have to be leaving any money in your will to St Leonard’s - although donations in Wills are always very welcome, appreciated and much needed.

It’s as easy as 1-2-3

It’s so easy to take part and get your will drawn up – just follow these simple steps

  1. Choose a solicitor from the list and contact them as soon as possible (they have limited free spaces to offer) to make an appointment in October. Don’t forget to mention St Leonard’s Make a Will .
  2. Be prepared and get everything ready – think about your list of assets (property, investments, possessions, savings etc) and the people and any organisations you might want to benefit.
  3. Get your will written up by one of the participating solicitors – the offer applies to standard wills, mirror wills and codicils – if your will is more complex the solicitor will advise on any extra costs.

Your donations mean so much

Amanda Taylor, in memory and legacy fundraiser at St Leonard’s said every donation would help support local people living with life-limiting illnesses.

“I’d like to invite you to take part and do two good things, make a will and support the Hospice,” she urged. “Please take part if you can. We can only care for our patients and their families because you care too.”
