North Yorkshire community centres set for renovation following help from Burnley-based BAAS Construction

The fund has been set up by Yorkshire Housing as part of their commitment to creating social value partnerships, where money is invested back into the local community by contractors and suppliers who win contracts from Yorkshire Housing.

Neville Crescent Community Centre in Gargrave, Princes Drive Community Room in Skipton and Greatwood and Horseclose Community Centre also in Skipton will all benefit from the funding that’ll include replacing roofs, flooring, and general redecoration.

James Haigh, enhanced tenancy services manager at Yorkshire Housing, said: “We’re embedding social value in our procurement process, partnering with suppliers who share similar values to us around improving the lives of customers and creating thriving communities.

“Thanks to BAAS these community centres will be able to continue to provide vital support for our customers and the wider community.”

Greatwood and Horseclose Community Centre host the Little Feet Creche, providing low-cost childcare to families who are not financially comfortable and the Scoff Café that provide low-cost meals.

Stuart Harrison, commercial director at BAAS Construction, noted how the firm had been glad to give assistance to the local community.

He said: “It’s always nice to give back to the local communities and make funding available through our partnership with Yorkshire Housing.

"Our pledge will hopefully help towards maintaining these essential facilities and the communities in which they serve and continuing their legacy for future generations.”
