Leeds-based Kenward Orthopaedic acquired by Ability Matters Group

Yorkshire-based orthopaedic footwear company Kenward Orthopaedic has been acquired by Ability Matters Group for an undisclosed sum.

Leeds-based Kenward Orthopaedic was established in 1993, and specialises in manufacturing products for NHS patients. It will now become part of the Ability Matters group.

RSM UK advised the firm on its sale to Oxfordshire-based Ability Matters Group.

Simon Kenward, managing director at Kenward Orthopaedic, said: ‘We are excited to join the Ability Matters family of companies.

Mr Kenward will remain as the company’s managing director.

As well as manufacturing products for NHS patients, Kenward Orthopaedic also designs and manufactures modular and bespoke footwear.

The firm has recently undertaken “significant” investment in the latest technology and production methods.

Ability Matters Group is an international healthcare products and services provider, specialising in mobility and accessibility including orthotics, prosthetics and wheelchairs.

The group has clinics throughout the UK and Ireland and manufacturing sites across the UK and the Netherlands, including Sheffield and Bradford. The group operates internationally, with distributors based in Europe, as well as further afield.

The RSM deal team was led by corporate finance partner Steve Hubbard, with support from corporate finance manager Jonny Bywater, corporate finance associate Joe Holt, and RSM’s tax team.

Mills & Reeve provided legal advice to Kenward Orthopaedic, led by partner Paul Johnson and Vanessa Walton.
